I loved this seat. It fit my oldest son perfectly and I had intended on passing it down to my youngest son after he outgrew his infant seat. We unfortunately had to throw this seat away and when I came to repurchase it I saw it was discontinued. I’m so bummed!

My son has used this seat for about a year and a half. It’s very easy to install rear facing but it is huge and weighs a ton! Not recommended if you’ll be traveling or moving between cars frequently! It has gotten good safety scores, which was my primary concern, but my son also finds it comfortable. Lacks clips to keep harness open (minor annoyance) and side wall is very high, so if you have a small car, may be hard to get toddler in and out.

Shipped perfectly, the seat was mostly easy to install, did have a small issue with the lap belt portion of the seat belt not wanting to tighten completely, but it did eventually. The seat has a good fit, my daughter seems MUCH more comfortable in this than in her infant seat, the shoulder pads are nice and cushiony but don't interfere with tightening. The tightening strap is so easy to tighten or loosen. The sides of the seat are a bit high, and the seat is in our large truck so it does make getting her in and strapped a little trickier, but I feel like it's safe so that's the most important part. It also does seem to keep her quite a bit cooler than her last seat.

Being able to unzip the top of the seat and throw it in the wash makes a huge difference! And the kids do seem to stay cooler in these seats, but the weather has cooled here since buying them also so it's hard to tell if the seat actually allows more air in or not. We haven't tried the insulated cup holder yet, but I am a little worried about all the other stuff my 3 year old puts in there making it messy and hard to clean out. Chicco brands are much easier to install at a good angle than the gracco ones we have and they come out in a cinch where the gracco ones have taken my husband and I 30 minutes to get out before! Overall we really like this seat and are very happy with our purchase.

We have a consumers report account and Chicco is rated #1 for years. Now that we have two kids we keep trying to considered other brands when it came time to upgrade the infant seat to a convertible. We’ve researching for over 6 months for the most comfortable, high quality and most security seat. Chiccos are very bulky and big, but extremely easy to install. My older son has the big kid seat and my baby the convertible one.
We love Chicco. We have bought seats next to each other in a regular Prius.

Initially found and researched this seat on ConsumerReports.org. It is heavy but that lends to its safety and features; I didn’t expect to be moving this seat from car-to-car each day like I did with our infant seat.
Definitely recommend this seat if the cost of owning two is not an issue.

Pros: insulated cup holder (yes, my daughter uses this), suitable for infants (included padding) but grows with the child (faces rear and front) and easy on-the-fly height adjustment, very easy to anchor and secure in a car, upright/recline adjustable, padded straps, and one-zip removable cover for washing.

Best Uses

Due to weight and lack of a handle, we opted to purchase one for each vehicle.

My LO outgrew her Chicco keyfit 30. We did a lot of research online, and we narrow down our choices to Chicco Nextfit, Maxi Cosi Pria 85, and Britax BLD or Advocate. We have good experience with Chicco keyfit, so we decided to go with Nextfit. Our LO sweats a lot, so we got the Air version for her.
She seems to be very happy with the new chair.

The only pro we don't like is it is very bulky, especially for rear-facing at this stage. We have a ford explorer. After putting the car seat in the middle of the 2nd row, we cannot get access to the 3rd row since the neither side of the 60/40 can be folded. Since our dog always gets into the trunk from the back, it is not a big issue for us now. But I really don't see a way we can fit Nextfit into our CRV without compromising the recline.

The buckle is a little difficult to push. The design of the pull and release for the straps seems to be located in an inconvenient location when the seat is rear facing. Other than that the seat fits great and appears very well made.

What base do I buy for this car seat? Or is it included?

This is a convertible car seat. This type of seat does not have a detachable base. The entire seat needs to be moved and installed.
