Fun, Interactive Features
December 12, 2016
The Thomas and Friends wooden railway Merrick and the rock crusher are a high quality set with some really fun and interactive features. Both my son (4) and daughter (2) really like the rock crusher and Merrick the crane. It was really nice that the set came with two trains, which made it a better value. The one complaint I have is that the track is not easy to put together. It would have been nice if a layout had come with the set as I had to get online and figure out how the set went together. It would normally not be a problem but it seems that Thomas sets have to be put together in a very specific manner. This was our first experience with a Thomas wooden track set. I would say this set is a bit young for my four year old. He lost interest after about 15 minutes. It seemed to hold my 2 year old's attention for longer. Overall, a fun set that makes a great addition to any little engineer's collection.

My son is very entertained by this toy. My son also enjoys setting up the track in many different ways and adding several different cars along with the trains as well.

An Awesome Birthday Surprise!!!
August 11, 2016
This was a present for my sons fourth birthday. As soon as he saw Thomas on the large box he was so excited. It was easy to setup and he was having a blast within ten minutes. It is very durable and perfect for my son who is little rough on his toys. He has played with this set everyday for the last four weeks. This is surely a long lasting trainset that any child will be ecstatic to receive.

An engaging set to play with
August 5, 2016
This is a review on the Thomas and Friends, Merrick and The Rock Crusher Wooden Railway by Fisher-Price. It's a 25 pieces wooden railway train set recommended for 3 years old and above. It took me less than a minute to set it up. It's a little fancy and an upgrade to your regular figure 8 train set. The set includes Thomas and Luke train engines with Red Cargo Train Car with rocks on it; a Rock Crusher machine where you can put the rock cargo and push down to 'crush' the rocks and twist to load it to the Red Cargo Train Car; and there is Merrick which sits and snaps on a ledge and is beautifully designed and can swivel from side to side and can lift and load cargo by turning on the red knob--up and down; and of course, the detailed train track of the Blue Mountain Quarry. The good thing about this set is that you can add other wooden railway tracks and trains to it. The only concern I have for this is that the train car won't stay on the tracks when it goes down without you holding it. Overall, it's a nice and engaging set to play with.

Amazing starter or addition set
August 4, 2016
I have two boys, almost 3 and almost 5 and they both loved this set. Merrick is a magnetic crane and works a lot like Cranky. The set is big enough that it can be used on a train table or even the floor. It also works well with all of the other wooden railway products. I would also recommend it as a great starter set. The parts my boys liked the most was the tall ascending/descending pieces and the interacting 'rock crushing' feature.

Lots of fun!
August 3, 2016
I've had this set for a few weeks now, and both my 8 and 4 year old sons love it! It is interchangeable with their other train sets. They have spent hours playing. They really like the crane and the "rock crushing." The only negative I have found, is that the bridge is pretty heavy, so when playing on carpet it sinks down enough that the trains won't fit under it. This is a great, sturdy product, and I definitely recommend for ages 8 and 4.

BlueMountainQuarry Comes Alive with Merrick Crane!
August 3, 2016
My 4yo loves Thomas & BMQ characters! Merrick is a crane that swivels from left to right. His crane arm is stationary, but he has a magnetic end piece attached to a string that can lift or lower other magnetic items via a round dial. Even with rough play, our Merrick crane has not come apart from the attached bridge. Speaking of bridges, this set includes a 2-story wooden bridge! Most wooden track sets include bridges, but they are only 1-story high. With this additional height, more trains can climb to the peak and fly down the other side and unless you have more tracks not included in this set, trains will derail. This set comes with 19 track pieces, and crashing trains makes for hours of play time. You also get a side station rock crusher that connects to a straight track piece. This mini station has a spring-loaded platform that my son pushes down to crush cargo and/or other trains. He then tilts the platform to unload items into passing trains. Lastly, you get 3 wooden trains; Thomas, Luke, and a cargo car with a removable magnetic clear piece with sealed rocks inside. If your kids watched the Thomas movie, Blue Mountain Mystery (2012), then they will for sure love this set as the movie characters come to life. If not, they will love the working magnetic crane, extra high bridge, mini side station, and 3 wooden train cars. By itself or adding this set to other wooden tracks, parents are assured of getting their money's worth.

Entertaining
August 2, 2016
We we so excited when the box arrived. It was easy to put together and loved that it came with some trains. I was disappointed if you let go of the train going down the ramp it runs right off or falls off the tracks. You have to hold the train going down the ramp. The crane should be able to move side to side and up and down not just with the string. It would be nice if the lever on the crane went up and down. The rocks in the rock crusher container should be a different color so kids can see the rocks bounces up and down.

Hours of Fun!
July 30, 2016
The Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Merrick and the Rock Crusher is hours of fun. It was easy to assemble and is durable. The only issue was the there isn't enough room at the top of the hill to use Merrick. Thomas the train rolls down the hill and then off the track. The Rock Crusher has a couple of moving parts that added to the fun.

My son loves this!
July 29, 2016
My son was so excited to play with Merrick! We opened the package and my 4 year old excitedly handed me pieces to build. He's played with this everyday since receiving it and has even added other favorite engines & cars to the set. The directions were easy to follow for set up and after some initial trouble getting Merrick to connect, he's now firmly snapped in place for hours of entertainment.

Fun train set!!!
July 28, 2016
My children ages 3, 4 and 6 years old love the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Merrick and the Rock Crusher! First of all I will say that it was so easy to put together and to follow directions that my kids were able to do it themselves which was really nice! This Thomas The Train set will last for years, the tracks are made of real wood and the set is very sturdy. It was also great to have Merrick and Thomas both in the set. The kids had a blast with the rock crushing feature. It is really wonderful to see a toy with great craftsmanship and something that more than 1 child can play with at once. You will not be disappointed!

Great Thomas addition
July 27, 2016
We got this toy for our 3 year old son. It was easy to assemble and he likes that the rocks really kind of crush when you load the cargo. The cargo car is a clear rectangle with small plastic rocks inside. I just wish it came with two cargo cars instead of one

Great quality product!!!
July 25, 2016
I received this train set in the mail and I am happy I did because my 3 year old son is very content when playing with it. It comes with an adequate amount of sturdy train tracks that can be simply put together and 3 trains. A downside to the toy is that the trains do not exactly stay on track when going down the rocky hill but, my son does not seem to mind. If you happen to have extra expansion pieces then the trains do not tend to fall off the track when going downhill. He loves the crane that comes with it, which picks up the rocks and moves them to the cargo car. The rock crusher and the crane are both cute additions to the set because it allows the children to play with something more than just train tracks, as it expands their imagination. Overall, my son and I are very satisfied with this product!

Great Features. Well designed and constructed!
July 24, 2016
My 4 year old son gave an unsolicited, "I love my new track!" after playing with his new Thomas & Friends Merrick and the Rock Crusher Wooden Railway for hours. It is the first complete Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway that we've owned. We usually buy pieces of Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway tracks from consignment sales. The features such as Merrick, the rocker crusher, wooden bridge are well constructed and designed. The bridge has rock quarry designs on at as well as images of other quarry working engines. Speaking of quarry engines, my 4 year son and I were so excited to receive Luke the Engine to add to our collection of engines, in addition to Thomas the Train and rock cargo truck that were included with the railway. Merrick has a powerful magnet that my son not only uses to lift the rock cargo but also lifts trains off the track! Even my 7 year old daughter enjoys playing the new railway. The only suggestion that I have is for the manufacturer to include a diagram or instructions for various track designs that can be constructed with the included tracks and features. My 4 year old attempted to construct the track following a small photo on the front of the box and became very frustrated. My husband and I assisted him in putting the railway together with the included features. Hours of fun followed afterwards! Overall, our experience with the new wooden railway has been positive.

First Impressions
July 23, 2016
We finally received the item on 7/21. My son has been waiting for weeks since choosing. We opened the box to find there were no instructions. It took some time using the small picture on the box. We got it almost done and realized we were missing a piece of track. We used a piece from another train set to make it work. Directions should be included to help make set up easier and quick. Kids don't have patients when they want to play. Merrick falls off every time he plays. Needs to be connected more securely. Both hills need sides. The trains fall off the hill with no sides. Would not have expected this from a $140. item.

Great learning toy!
July 22, 2016
My three year old loves Thomas and Friends and really enjoyed playing with this product. The wooden tracks are well made and easy for him to put together by himself. He was especially intrigued by Merrick, the magnetic crane. The crane has a good magnet which can hold one or two trains hanging on the sturdy rope. The ability to shorten and lengthen the crane rope by turning a wheel helps with hand-eye coordination and the slope of the track helps him understand the physics of speed. The rock crusher was not as interesting for him but I was impressed with the ability to tilt the platform so that items could be deposited to the side. The only issue I had was with the design of the connection between the crane and the track. I don't know if it's a defect or if it's a missing piece but there is nothing that attaches the crane to the track. So it basically sits on a tiny, narrow ledge that juts out from the track. As a result, every time the track moves, the crane falls. Unlike the rock crusher, which has a hole that can be connected to a knob that juts out from one of the tracks, the way the crane was designed is quite unstable. Otherwise, this is a great toy for toddlers.

Quality + Color + Function = FUN!!!
July 21, 2016
Like many kids his age, my 4-year-old son loves (is obsessed) with Thomas. As a mom and a teacher, I love the Thomas line as well. Besides the excellent quality of the Fisher Price Thomas items, I really appreciate the colors, detail, function, and overall creativity of the Thomas wooden line. The new wooden set, “Merrick & the Rock Crusherâ€ is another fine example of a quality and colorful toy. This set includes a modified figure-8 style track with a “mountainâ€, a rock crusher, Merrick the crane, a Thomas engine with a cargo car (and of course cargo), and a Luke engine. All of this fits on our train table with room to add some other track lines and buildings. It is large enough to accommodate both my boys playing at once. The overall setup of the tracks and building was easy and took only a few minutes. The directions are very simply laid out; however be careful not to throw out the instructions as they come on a folded piece of plain paper. I almost mistook it for packing materials. One concern with the setup is that Merrick is only one-sided and doesn’t fully attach to the set. He has only one side to “stand onâ€ and the other side basically leans up against the mountain. This was frustrating for my son as anytime he (or I) tried to use the crane, it would fall over. I ended up holding Merrick for him while he raised and lowered the crane. The “mountainâ€ is really colorful and fun â€"except that instead of having a straight track at the bottom, it automatically goes into a curved track. Because of this, the trains fly right off of the track at the bottom of the mountain. We tried several times and with a bunch of different trains to see if any would actually stay on the track, and they didn’t. I disassembled the mountain and added a long straight track at the bottom of it and then added the curved piece to it â€"the train did not fly off the track with the straight track added at the bottom. Once I reset my sons train table, I am going to add a straight piece so he can use the mountain without the trains flying off at the bottom. The rock crusher is really fun and the detail of the paint/print is great. The cargo has small pieces of “rockâ€ in it, and the crusher makes them rattle as they are “crushedâ€. Once the rock is crushed, it is then slid into the cargo car for Thomas or Luke to take away. My son really enjoyed that feature and played with it over and over again. This particular set is excellent in helping kids with their fine motor skills. My 6-year-old son received Occupational Therapy, and this set is great in getting him to use his hands. The rock crusher’s “crushingâ€ action requires him to press his fingers down and the “dumpingâ€ action requires him to use his pincer grip to turn the cargo down into the cargo car. Merrick is also used manually, so he has to twist the knob in order to lower the tender into the car. Three fun things to encourage him to move his hands is an A+ in my book. Overall “Merrick & the Rock Crusherâ€ is a wonderful addition to our wooden Thomas collection. The durability of the set will get our family through years of play â€"I am sure my baby will end up enjoying it in a few years when he’s old enough to play with Thomas. I highly recommend the Fisher Price wooden Thomas line and will continue to add to our collection of colorful and quality toys for my three boys to enjoy.

My 5 yr old loves it!
July 21, 2016
I got this for my son's 5th birthday. He loves it! After opening the package he just kept yelling "this is awesome"! He loves that there is a tunnel and a steep incline for the trains. He was very excited that Luke was included. Like all Wooden Railway playsets, the quality is wonderful. His sister who is 8, even likes it. They both will play together creating different pretend scenarios for the rock quarry.

Nice set with some fun features.
July 19, 2016
The set was very easy to put together with the visual instructions. The graphics were great and the features of this particular set, like Merrick's magnetic crane, make it work with other sets, in case you have other name brand trains and of course, the tracks can be combined with other tracks to make larger sets. The rock crusher and the lever to slide the "rocks" into Thomas's cargo car kept my kids' interest as well. The only thing I would like to see changed is how Merrick connects onto the track set. It's a separate piece that is supposed to lock into a piece of plastic sticking out from the hilltop, but my son has broken it off a few times while playing with the set on carpet. Luckily it hasn't actually broken and I can just snap it back on.

Hours of fun!
July 19, 2016
My 3yr old boy and 6yr old girl absolutely adore Thomas! They moment they saw the box, they were all over it! Great quality wooden material. Easy to assemble. I initially set it up for them and when I turned my back to get the camera for pics, they had removed many of the pieces and began their own assembly! The pieces can be set up in a variety ways. They played together for well over an hour. Very engaging and fun. I foresee this train track to be played with very often.

Good quality & lots of fun
July 18, 2016
We received the product today and dove right in! It was very simple to put together and came with 3 train cars (Thomas, Luke & a cargo car), which was a nice feature so each of my kids had something to drive. The two older boys (5 & 3) played with it for a solid 45 minutes, and returned to the some of the pieces for the remainder of the afternoon. My 1-year old also got in on the action when he could, and took the wooden tracks apart as quickly as he could. They are very well made and seemed to hold up to his testing quite well. I like that the straight tracks had one side with the grooves for the train wheels, and one side with a center line (like a road) giving a little more versatility in how the kids can play. One downside is that the rock crusher piece is mostly plastic, and it doesn't always function as promised. It should "crush" the rock block and then tip it into the cargo car. The block usually ends up sideways and has to be adjusted, which doesn't seem to bother the kids, but it is a little tricky for them to use, as it requires two-hands to crush and tip while holding the train. Another small hitch is that the tracks don't hold the trains when going downhill, so if you let your train go, it always hops the tracks. I tried switching some of the short curved pieces for the longer pieces and it still happened. Again, the kids didn't seem to mind terribly. Merrick is a big hit, the kids love that the magnetic boom picks up the "crushed rock" block, and of course they love everything Thomas. Overall it's a great toy and one they were very excited to receive in the mail!

My son (four years old) received this toy 3 days ago and hasn't stopped playing with it. It really holds his attention and allows for imaginative play and role playing with the trains. Even his older cousins (five and nine) enjoyed playing with him. Great toy for children to share. Nice quality and easy to put together.
